Science

“Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure Science.”

Edwin Powell Hubble

Our Science curriculum is designed to allow pupils to find the answers to questions about materials, physical processes and biology.

At Tang Hall our science teaching focusses on both scientific knowledge and enquiry skills. We value the impact that high quality science education has on our understanding of the world and encourage everyone to develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about the world around us. Our Science curriculum reinforces our Whole school values (CREW):

  • Challenge – a hands on practical curriculum that motivates and develops confidence and determination,
  • Resilience – scientific enquiry helps to develop resilience – How can we make this work?
  • Enrichment – we aim to enhance our curriculum with a wide range of visits and visitors.
  • World – children learn through a hands on approach, they learn how and why things happen within our world.

We study:

  • Welcome to Yorkshire
  • Influencers
  • Treasure

Skills

We have designed a progression of skills to allow our pupils to become proficient in:

  • Scientific and conceptual knowledge
  • Understanding of nature
  • Uses and implications of science

Barriers

Our entire curriculum, including Science, promotes opportunities to be Challenged, build Resilience, experience Enrichment and explore the wider World (#CREW).

Stakeholders have identified that our pupils hold certain barriers when studying Science. To ensure our pupils all reach their full potential, we have designed our history curriculum with a focus on these specific barriers which include:

  • Building confidence, stamina and independence
  • Developing oracy and extending vocabulary
  • Knowledge beyond their immediate locality
